FSU Relays!!!!

As much as I love running track and travelling to do it I admit that it can become a little tiring. Last week I spent my time at Morehouse Relays in Atlanta. I love the city. I ate a bunch of roti which is something I can only dream about in Tallahassee. That all said though ten hours round trip to spend only 30 hours in a place is bothersome at best. Had I been a professional athlete who didn't have to worry about coming back to classes and a job, like my cousin, this whole track and field thing would be significantly easier. Which is why I am so excited about this weekend. I get to compete and I only have to commute four minutes to do it. If my friends so chose to come and see me run they could and I'm "home" (it isn't Miami but I'd have to drive there too).

My parents are touching down into Vegas soon so unfortunately they won't be here to see me run. But the commute for them must be even more irritating as Miami is at the nearly bottom of the country. At any rate my first "home" 100 meter has arrived and I'm ready to do something about it. Likely win and run faster than I ever have. HA! At any rate...touch base soon.

Gerard Clarke's Anti Saint Patricks's Day

Make no mistakes about the title of this post. I am not opposed to St. Patrick's Day festivities. While I'm far from Irish I, and apparently everybody else, finds that to be completely besides the point. For most people St. Patrick's is an excuse for drunkenness. My St. Patrick's on 2010 consisted of that same behavior. My 2011 consisted of track and field practice and...severe shin splints. Sacrifices all toward the eventual end of qualifying for National Championships in Trinidad have been rampant for me this year. Unfortunately, I fear there is a new obstacle in my way in the form of one or more stress fractures on my lower legs. More than anything in the world I hope I'm wrong but I've had shin splints before and I'd order an extra side of those before I ever again had a dream about the pain I've been experiencing lately.

In short the internet terminology for this situation, that I can think of, is "SMH." I can only imagine that it would be followed by some kind of emoticon with a tear somehow involved in it. Anyway. I have two races in Atlanta this weekend before I organize to see a doctor. So in the spirit of St. Patrick's Day (which is a spirit I know absolutely nothing about but would St. Patrick cared about me) here's to hoping I run well this weekend and that my tibia hasn't started to crack and chip into smaller pieces.

Spring Break in Baton Rouge

Came across to Baton Rouge for Spring Break '11. Didn't have a conventional break at all. I substituted the alcohol consumption with hard work on the track over here in Louisiana. Worked on my sprint form and technique with my cousin here with my cousin while he honed his skills for his professional season this year. A major championship year in track and field, he's looking to get back into the form he was in, and better, when he got his silver medal in the Beijing Olympics.

Two races into my season and I have yet to have a race that truly shows my potential as a sprinter. I have about 3 or 4 more races left on the year if I dont manage to qualify for national championships back in Trinidad and Tobago. At any rate I'm looking forward to improving and having the race I know I can have. The goal still remains to qualify for international competition by 2012. Hopefully all goes well. Anyway...I love to talk, especially about myself but this being my first blog it is a little uncomfortable so for now I'll sign off
